Why it exists
Why we're different
Local Transcriber is not just a transcription tool. It's a context hub for modern-day workflows. And Local Transcriber's mission as an app was simple. No account. No subscription. No charging for a tool that should be free.
In addition to those promises being upheld, we strive to be as transparent and secure with user data as possible. Our app Local Transcriber is rare in the sense that it qualifies as Data Not Collected, Apple's strictest privacy label.
What it does
Features
-
On-device
Transcription runs on your iPhone. Your media isn't sent to BreadthBoy or a transcription service.
-
Import from anywhere
Pull audio or video in from Photos or Files. The app extracts the audio and transcribes it.
-
Record on device
Capture audio straight from the microphone and transcribe it locally. Recording keeps going while you use other apps until you come back and stop it.
-
Type notes too
Not everything needs audio. Write notes directly in the app — no microphone, no permissions required.
-
No account
No sign-up, no email, no login. Open it and use it.
-
No app data collected
No analytics, no tracking, no identifiers. I have no way of knowing you installed it.
-
Folders
Organize transcripts into folders. Sort manually, alphabetically, or by most recent.
-
Edit and rename
Titles and transcript text are both editable. Fix what the recognizer got wrong.
-
Export
Share as Markdown or plain text — one transcript at a time, or a whole folder as a single document.
-
Delete everything
Erase transcripts, notes, folders, numbering, temporary files, and app setup progress from Settings.

Privacy
No app data
collected
The app collects no app data. Your transcripts live on your device. The original audio isn't even kept — once a file is transcribed, the working copy is discarded and only the text remains.
