The short version
Local Transcriber: ContextKeep ("Local Transcriber") records, transcribes, and stores your content on your iPhone. The app does not send your content to BreadthBoy LLC. BreadthBoy does not collect, sell, share, track, or monetize your content through the app. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDK, and no server operated by BreadthBoy.
Rather than claim that nothing ever leaves your iPhone, this policy is specific about the few things that do involve Apple, your own iCloud account, or a destination you choose: downloading a file you selected from iCloud or another file provider, Apple's transcription-model download, your personal device backup, and anything you deliberately export or share. Each is described below. None of them send your content to BreadthBoy.
Local Transcriber is published by BreadthBoy LLC. Contact: [email protected].
What this policy covers
This policy describes what the Local Transcriber iPhone app stores, processes, and sends, what BreadthBoy LLC does and does not receive, and how BreadthBoy handles support email you choose to send. It does not govern Apple's platform services, your personal iPhone or iCloud backups, an iCloud or third-party file-provider account you connect through iOS, or a destination you deliberately choose from the iOS share sheet. Those are handled under their own terms and privacy policies.
What the app automatically sends to BreadthBoy
Nothing. Local Transcriber has:
- no account, sign-in, or user profile;
- no server, backend, or database operated by BreadthBoy;
- no analytics, advertising, tracking, attribution, or crash-reporting SDK;
- no third-party software development kits of any kind;
- no access to location, contacts, health data, advertising identifiers, or device fingerprinting;
- no code that transmits recordings, imported media, transcripts, notes, titles, filenames, or usage information to BreadthBoy or to any transcription service.
Because the app transmits nothing to BreadthBoy on its own, BreadthBoy holds no dataset gathered through the app and has no ability to identify app users. The app's bundled privacy manifests declare no collected data types and no tracking, consistent with the App Store's Data Not Collected declaration.
Two things are worth naming so this section is not read more broadly than it should be: if you choose to email support, BreadthBoy receives that email, as described in the next section; and if you have turned on Apple's system-wide sharing of diagnostics with developers, Apple may provide crash and performance diagnostics under Apple's policies, as described under Diagnostics and crash reports. Neither is something the app does on its own, and neither involves your transcripts, notes, recordings, or imported media.
If you email support
The app never sends a message on your behalf. The Support/Contact screen only displays an email address you can copy. If you decide to write to [email protected], that message reaches BreadthBoy the way any ordinary email would, and BreadthBoy receives your email address, whatever you write, and any attachments you choose to include.
That mailbox is hosted by Google (Gmail), so Google transmits and stores the message under its own terms and privacy policy. BreadthBoy uses support correspondence only to answer you and to investigate the issue you raise, does not sell or share it, and may retain it as long as reasonably needed for support history, business records, or legal obligations.
Because a support email is something you compose yourself, please include only what is needed to resolve your issue. Transcripts, recordings, and other personal content are never required for support, and nothing in the app attaches them for you.
Support email is correspondence you initiate outside the app. It does not change the app's Data Not Collected declaration on the App Store, which describes data collected through the app itself. Local Transcriber contains no in-app messaging or feedback form, and no in-app channel that sends support content to BreadthBoy.
What you provide and what the app creates
You provide:
- audio you choose to record with the microphone;
- audio or video files you select from Photos or Files;
- text you type into notes and titles.
From that, the app creates and stores on your iPhone:
- transcript text produced on your device;
- transcript and note titles you can edit;
- creation dates, your manual ordering, how long a transcription took, and whether a transcription failed;
- folder names, folder ordering, and which items belong to each folder;
- setup status and two counters used to number new transcripts and notes.
If a transcription fails, the app saves a clearly marked entry in your library containing a short built-in explanation of the failure. These explanations are fixed messages written into the app; they are stored locally like any other entry and are not reported anywhere.
Where processing happens
Transcription runs on your iPhone using Apple's on-device speech analysis frameworks and Apple's downloaded English (United States) transcription model. Local Transcriber does not use a cloud transcription service, and it does not send your audio, video, transcripts, or notes to BreadthBoy or to any third party for processing.
If Apple's on-device transcription model is not already installed, iOS downloads it from Apple. That download requests a language model from Apple's servers; it does not include your recordings, transcripts, notes, or any of your content. Because the model is a shared system asset that iOS may remove when storage runs low, the app may check for it again and ask iOS to reinstall it later.
Permissions
Local Transcriber requests two iOS permissions:
- Microphone — to record audio you choose to transcribe on your device.
- Speech Recognition — to transcribe audio and video on your device. Apple requires this permission for the speech frameworks the app uses, which run locally on your iPhone.
You can grant, deny, or change either permission at any time in iOS Settings. Permission decisions are stored by iOS under Apple's control; an app cannot read them for other apps or silently reset them. Typing notes by hand requires neither permission.
Local Transcriber does not request full photo-library access. Selecting from Photos uses Apple's system picker, which hands the app only the items you pick. Selecting from Files gives the app access only to the files you choose.
Microphone recording
When you start a recording, the app captures audio from whichever microphone your iPhone is actively using — the built-in microphone, or a connected Bluetooth or wired microphone or headset. That can include your voice, people nearby, and audio playing audibly through a speaker in the room. It does not tap into private system audio streams or capture audio from other apps directly. Recording begins only when you start it — from the Record button in the app or the Record Now control in Control Center.
Recording can continue while the app is in the background or while your iPhone is locked, so a recording you started is not lost when you switch apps. iOS shows a recording indicator, and the app may display a Live Activity on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. That Live Activity shows only the app name, recording status, and elapsed time — never audio or transcript content.
If the audio route changes while you are recording — you connect or disconnect a headset, or a Bluetooth microphone drops out — iOS often switches to the newly active microphone and recording simply continues. If iOS actually stops the recording instead, whether because of a phone call, another audio session, or a microphone that disconnected, the app preserves the audio captured up to that point so it is not silently lost, and asks whether you want to transcribe or discard it. Until you choose, that audio remains on your iPhone as a protected temporary file. Discarding deletes it immediately, and if the app is closed or force-quit before you decide, the file is removed the next time the app launches.
The recording itself is a temporary working file. After transcription finishes, fails, or is cancelled, it is deleted. Only the resulting text is kept in your library.
Importing from Photos and Files
When you import, the app receives only the audio or video items you select. It makes a protected temporary working copy on your iPhone, verifies that the copy is complete, transcribes it locally, and deletes the copy after the transcription succeeds, fails, or is cancelled.
If an item you select is not fully stored on your iPhone — for example a video in iCloud Photos, a file in iCloud Drive, or a file kept by another file-provider app — iOS or that provider may need to download it to your device before handing it to Local Transcriber. That transfer happens between your device and your own account under Apple's or that provider's terms. BreadthBoy is not a party to it and cannot see or access it.
Imported-file transcription pauses when you leave the app and resumes when you return, so it does not run unattended in the background. Microphone recording behaves differently, as described above. Starting a new microphone recording cancels an unfinished microphone transcription; it does not affect imported-file transcriptions already in progress.
Control Center
Local Transcriber offers one Control Center control, Record Now. Tapping it opens the app's microphone page and starts recording once that page is on screen. The Control Center extension itself never records audio.
The extension and the main app share a private App Group so the control can tell the app to open the recorder. The only thing written there is a short-lived random request identifier. No audio, transcript text, note text, titles, filenames, or other content is stored in or passed through the App Group.
What is stored on your iPhone
Transcripts, notes, titles, folders, ordering, counters, and setup state are stored in the app's private container on your device. The app has no iCloud sync and no developer-operated sync: it does not copy your library to another device or to any service on its own.
Temporary working files — microphone recordings, imported media copies, extracted audio, and export files — are written to the app's temporary storage with iOS file protection applied. They are deleted after normal use, and the app also clears its temporary storage at launch, which covers a crash, force-quit, or interruption that prevented cleanup.
Exporting, sharing, and copying
Your content leaves the app only when you choose an action:
- Export creates a temporary Markdown or plain-text file and opens the iOS share sheet. The file is named from the title you gave the item. Whatever destination you pick — Files, AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or a cloud-storage app — then holds that copy under its own terms and privacy policy. The temporary export file is deleted after sharing, or at the next launch if cleanup was interrupted.
- Copy places transcript or note text on your iPhone's clipboard. The app marks clipboard content local-only, so it is not synced to your other Apple devices through Universal Clipboard. Clipboard content stays available on that device until it is replaced.
The Settings screen also links out to this privacy policy and to the developer's personal website, which open in your browser. Support/Contact displays a support email address you can copy; the app does not send a message or transmit anything on your behalf.
Device backups
If you have iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup enabled, iOS may include Local Transcriber's locally stored data in your personal device backup. That backup belongs to you and is governed by Apple's terms, or by your computer's. BreadthBoy cannot access it. You can manage which apps are included in iOS iCloud settings.
Deleting your data
Settings → Erase All App Data permanently removes the app's local data store along with every transcript, note, folder, ordering, title counter, and temporary file, plus pending Control Center launch state and your setup progress. The app clears temporary files first, erases the data store, then verifies the result before reporting success, and tells you plainly if it cannot confirm the erasure. Erasing is unavailable while a transcription is running, so finish or cancel active work first.
Erasing app data does not:
- reset your Microphone or Speech Recognition permissions, which iOS controls and you manage in iOS Settings;
- retrieve or delete files you already exported, shared, or saved elsewhere;
- alter copies contained in a device backup you previously made;
- remove Apple's shared on-device transcription model, which is a system asset managed by iOS.
You can also delete individual transcripts, notes, and folders inside the app. Deleting a folder returns its items to your main library rather than deleting them. Deleting the app from your iPhone removes its local container.
Diagnostics and crash reports
Local Transcriber contains no developer-operated crash reporting or diagnostics service. If you have enabled Apple's system-wide "Share With App Developers" setting, Apple may provide the developer with crash and performance diagnostics under Apple's own policies.
Released builds of the app write no transcript text, note text, titles, filenames, or audio to system logs. Detailed developer logging exists only in internal debug builds and is compiled out of the version distributed on the App Store.
Children's privacy
Local Transcriber has no account, no sign-up, no advertising, and no tracking, and the app does not automatically transmit anyone's content to BreadthBoy, including a child's. BreadthBoy does not knowingly receive personal information from children through the app.
Content created in the app is stored on the device, subject to the same user-directed exceptions described throughout this policy: anything exported or shared through the iOS share sheet goes wherever the person sharing it chooses, and a personal device backup may include app data. Those actions are controlled by whoever uses and manages the device, so a parent or guardian setting up a child's iPhone may want to review sharing and backup settings alongside this policy.
Your privacy rights and requests
Privacy laws give you rights to access, correct, port, or delete personal data a company holds about you. BreadthBoy receives no app-user content, account data, or identifiers through the app, so there is no developer-side record gathered from the app to produce, correct, export, or delete. BreadthBoy does not sell or share app-user content or data collected through the app. Your app content stays under your control on your device, where you can export it or erase it inside the app at any time.
These rights do apply to support correspondence. If you have emailed support, you can ask BreadthBoy for a copy of that correspondence, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, subject to anything that must be kept for legal or record-keeping reasons. Support correspondence is not linked to an app account, so writing from the same email address is normally how BreadthBoy identifies the correspondence covered by your request.
If you have a privacy question, want to make a request, or believe something in this policy does not match how the app behaves, email [email protected] and it will be answered directly.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new date at the top. This version replaces the August 24, 2026 version, which described an earlier release of the app. If a future app version changes how data is handled, this policy and the App Store privacy information will be updated before that version is released.
